Small Scale Sukumo Indigo Processing Workshop
TUESDAY, AUGUST 17, 10 am to 1pm CST
Live in Wisconsin and Live Stream Via Zoom
Periodic Zoom Streams Over the 60 Day Period
Cost: $270 payable at registration
Maximum: 15 students
In this course, Debbie Jircik will take you through an overview of sukumo and her own experiences with small scale sukumo and techniques learned from Awonoyoh. Through lecture and hands on for those able to be here in person and observation over the course of the 60 day process, in seventeen modules on zoom, you will be able to experience the process of transformation of dried indigo leaves into sukumo. The 16 modules will vary from 20 minutes to an hour each time as the sukumo is mixed. Reports of changes in temperature, texture, moisture, and odor will be reported. These sessions will serve as a guide as you explore making sukumo in your own unique conditions. Knowing that there is no substitute for hands on experience and getting the feel of the process, the goal of this course is to serve as a catalyst for your own sukumo making.
A recommended supplies and resource list will be included. Purchasing the book, The Way of Indigo, is recommended.
In Person Participation
The three hour class on August 17 begins the series. Participants are welcome to come participate in person that day and to spend extra days at the studio as desired and inquiries for participation on other days during the 60 day period are welcome.
